About the TCMF
Funds raised at the event benefit the Twin City Music Foundation (TCMF), a 501(c)3 charitable organization. Newell Hill founded TCMF in March of 2000 in order to bring music and arts education to low-income youth. Hill firmly believes that through the arts we are able to reach our young people and help them gain confidence and the ability to believe in themselves. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “We must first teach our children to believe in themselves.”
TCMF grants money to low-income youth via the Maureen Conway Scholarship Fund. Maureen Conway was Hill’s high school history teacher and is a primary reason he started NHMF. Conway taught Hill how much of a positive impact a teacher can have on a student.
The Maureen Conway Fund primarily focuses on music education opportunities for low-income youth. (Private lessons, instrument purchase, youth orchestra scholarships, etc.) Some funds are also used for visual art or dance scholarships.
About the Artists
This year’s event will feature original wood carvings by San Diego native, Kimberly duBois. Finding inspiration during her travels between Los Angeles, Mexico and Minneapolis, duBois’s carvings are influenced by tradition, love and hurt, and evoke sensations of life and death. An eclectic range of fine jewelry, sculpture, painting and photography by other local artists will also be available for purchase.
